What is New in the 2021 Honda Accord?

Posted on March 19, 2021 by Rockie Williams Premier

It's time to meet the redesigned 2021 Honda Accord. Modern styling, powerful engines, and plenty of interior comfort in this mid-size sedan make it a top choice.

Many new Honda Accord updates have it standing out among new Honda vehicles. Let's take a closer look at what's changed from previous Accord models.

Curb Appeal

The Accord's exterior has received a stylish refresh. LED headlights are a new option for 2021. A sculpted hood flows forward to an updated grille for an aggressive front fascia.

New alloy wheels come in various sizes and styles, giving the Accord's sleek profile and athletic posture. The new Sonic Gray Pearl color is available.

Honda has dropped the EX trim and introduced a Sport SE trim that combines much of the EX and Sport trim style and equipment. The Honda Accord also comes in the LX, Sport, EX-L, and Touring 2.0T trims.

Much of the exterior style remains the same between trims. The Sport, Sport SE, and Touring 2.0T trims feature 19-inch sport-inspired wheels while the rest of the Accord lineup comes with 17-inch alloy wheels in various styles.

New in 2021 is Honda's Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock system. Your Accord now unlocks when you approach the vehicle with the key fob in your pocket. The system automatically locks your Accord when you exit the vehicle and walk away.

Powerful Engine Options

A 1.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine replaces the previous year's naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine. Honda pairs this engine with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and has dropped the six-speed manual transmission for 2021. The result is an impressive 192 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque.

You can opt for the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which replaces the naturally aspirated V-6 from last year. This engine mates to a 10-speed automatic transmission that out-performs the CVT with smooth, almost effortless shifting.

This powertrain puts out 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque for quick acceleration and responsive power on demand.

A hybrid powertrain is available and improves upon the previous year's naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. Honda pairs this hybrid technology with a new e-CVT transmission to deliver 212 total system horsepower.

Performance Engineering

New steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters allow you to control the CVT's shift points or shift gears on the 10-speed automatic for a more thrilling driving experience. The Sport and Sport SE trims come with sport pedals and a leather-wrapped shift knob standard.

An adaptive damper system automatically adjusts the Accord's suspension based on the road surface and driver input for a smooth, responsive feel. Wheel resonators minimize road noise for a quieter ride.

Interior Comfort and Convenience

Inside, the Accord offers more space than previous generations. The Accord's rear-seat passengers have more legroom than almost every other mid-size sedan on the market. Cargo space improves slightly to 17 cubic feet, which keeps among the leaders in its class.

Interior seats are premium cloth on the lower trims, and leather appointments are standard on the upper trims. Heating and ventilation are options, and the rear seat can now come with a heated option.

Inside every trim are soft-touch surfaces, real wood, and metal appliques that add a refined style. The new one-touch power moonroof is an available option you'll love. Active Noise Cancellation technology makes the 2021 Honda Accord one of the quietest rides on the road.

Honda's approach to upgrades and add-ons is limited but the trims don't seem to suffer. A dual-zone automatic climate control system, push-button start, power windows and doors, illuminated switches and controls, and more are standard on every trim.

In-Vehicle Technology

An 8-inch touch screen is a focal point for all your in-vehicle tech. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability are now standard Honda Accord features for 2021. Now you can make calls, access your favorite apps, get navigation, and more hands-free with intuitive voice commands.

A wireless charging pad is also standard. A new 10-speaker premium audio system with a 450-watt amplifier is standard on the EX-L trim.

One of the many Honda Accord updates is the head-up display. This Honda smart technology feature projects critical driving data to the windshield above your steering wheel so you can keep your eyes focused on the road while reading important information.

Driver-Assist Technology

Honda Sensing is a suite of driver-assist systems that are standard in all new Honda vehicles. The suite includes updated versions of the previous year's systems.

The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) uses forward-mounted sensors to scan the road ahead for hazards. The CMBS will automatically engage when it senses a collision is imminent to help lessen the impact.

Honda's Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) system uses similar technology to track your Accord while traveling within marked lanes. The RDM will alert you when it detects an unintentional drift. It can even provide steering correction to return you to your lane or braking to keep you from leaving the road.

Another standard feature is the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). LKAS uses subtle steering corrections to keep you centered within marked lanes. Traffic Sign Recognition is also standard and projects images of traffic signs to your driver information center or the head-up display.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) uses radar to monitor your Accord in traffic. The ACC will keep you at a preset speed and distance even to a complete stop. Depressing the accelerator will return your Accord to your presets.

Summary

The market for family sedans continues to shrink in the United States, but that hasn't prevented the 2021 Honda Accord from shining. The Accord continues to adapt to modern styling, inside and out.

Honda continues to push the Accord forward with a powertrain and suspension system that performs like a sports car. A hybrid powertrain that keeps getting better addresses the growing segment of green drivers.

Spacious and comfortable are two hallmarks of the Accord's interior making it a pleasure to ride in as well as to drive. As technology continues to change and evolve, so too has the Accord. Standard infotainment packages, driver-assist systems, and intuitive controls are all reasons to invest in an Accord.
