5 Modern Features in the Latest Honda Models

Honda has upgraded its entire range to include the latest in driver technology. Here are a few of the most notable features in the latest Honda models.

Keyword(s): Gas Mileage

Each year, roughly 1 million Americans purchase Honda vehicles. The Japanese company sells upwards of 10 million units internationally.

Most people have some familiarity with these vehicles. Their affordability and efficiency make them popular models for many families and first-time drivers.

However, like other vehicle companies, Honda strives to improve their vehicles. The newest Honda automobiles bring new features and designs that set them apart from older models.

These features improve some of the more practical features, such as the vehicle's gas mileage. They also include aesthetic changes to make for a sleeker design.

If you're curious about these changes, keep reading! We'll explore five of the most significant updates in this guide.

1. Simplicity and Something Interior

One of the major changes Honda's new vehicles will implement is the "Simplicity and Something" interior design. This new design drastically alters the car's inside to achieve some crucial benefits.

We'll explore some of these benefits in later sections. For now, let's discuss what vehicles will include these changes.

Some of Honda's newest vehicles on the market already incorporate these design changes, including:

  • Civics
  • Accords
  • CR-Vs
  • Passports
  • Ridgelines

Each of these models also received individualized changes. For example, the Honda Civic's new infotainment center includes a 7-inch touchscreen. This touchscreen is larger than the five-inch version provided by previous models.

Some models allow you to upgrade to a 9-inch display as well. In addition to the infotainment center, the interior itself feels larger and more spacious.

2. Reduced Clutter

The main goal of the "Simplicity and Something" philosophy was to reduce clutter and complexity in the vehicle's front. Since cars have increasingly become more high-tech, this was no easy goal. Adding new features to vehicles often makes them feel more cluttered.

So, how does Honda improve this situation? First, they made some features a little smaller. For example, the vehicle's pillar is thinner than in previous models.

Similarly, they've also made the car cowl lower and increased the greenhouse size. Finally, newer Honda vehicles also include unbroken honeycomb grates that mask the air vents for a sleeker look.

In short, the new Honda designs seem to revolve around modern features and incorporate those concerns into their framework. It's a different approach than recent car manufacturers utilized. Many of these designs felt like manufacturers threw new technology into old interiors.

3. Maximized Space

One advantage of reduced technological clutter is more space for drivers and passengers. Honda designs new interiors to feel much roomier for people in the car without completely overhauling their previous interior designs.

The company accomplishes this with an approach it calls "Man Maximum / Machine Minimum." This approach reduces the amount of space taken by mechanical components, allowing people more room to stretch out. So, even if the vehicles remain the same size, people can drive more comfortably.

4. Improved Gas Mileage

In June 2022, US gas prices soared to an all-time high of $5 per gallon. If drivers want anything now, it's to spend less money at the pump. Fortunately, new Honda vehicles can make that happen.

Honda has led the charge for better fuel economy for nearly a decade. In 2018, the CR-V SUV rose to 28 mpg from 23 mpg in 2013. This change represented a 22% increase in just one of the company's products.

Several of Honda's vehicles provide enhanced fuel efficiencies, such as the Civic sedan and hatchback or the Accord sedan. The EPA determined that 83% of Honda's current vehicles featured improved fuel economy.

These improvements come from engines with gasoline-direct injections. Similarly, 54% of recent models include a turbo.

So, how do the 2022 models compare to their 2018 counterparts? The 2022 Honda Civic 4Dr 2.0 L, four-cylinder automatic, receives a combined average of 35 mpg.

This vehicle gets roughly 31 mpg in city traffic. On highways, it can reach 40 mpg. In total, you can drive as far as 434 miles in this vehicle on a single tank of gas.

Please note that this model does not include a turbo in its engine. Models including turbo can receive a combined total of 36 mpg, reaching 33 mpg in cities and 42 mpg on highways.

These improvements continue to place Honda at the forefront of gas mileage innovation. The company hopes to continue improving this crucial future in the coming years.

5. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay Compatibility

We've talked briefly about Honda infotainment system changes in this article. However, one crucial improvement to this system is the introduction of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

These days, everybody uses a GPS to drive. However, checking your phone's directions can become distracting on the road. It could even become hazardous!

That's one reason why this compatibility is such an improvement. This feature allows you to display your GPS directions on a clearly visible touchscreen. Now, you won't have to check your phone when driving.

This feature also makes it easier to control your audio output. Many people enjoy listening to music or podcasts when they drive but don't want to risk selecting new content from their phones on the road. Once again, this touchscreen provides a safer alternative.
