Which Honda Has the Best Gas Mileage?
In the market for a new Honda? In your search, miles per gallon matters - explore the differences in gas mileage between models here.
Keywords(s) Mileage
The highest gas prices to date were $5.02 per gallon in June 2022. Gas prices may be down for now (averaging $3.14 per gallon as of this writing), but with the current economy, that may not last long.
If you are trying to save money on gas, you should consider buying a Honda vehicle. Honda is known for making high-quality yet affordable vehicles with attractive features like good gas mileage.
But what Honda gets the best miles per gallon (MPG)? That honor goes to the Honda Insight. The Honda Insight is a hybrid electric/gas four-door sedan with incredible fuel efficiency.
Unfortunately, the Insight may not be available after 2022. Keep reading to learn about the other Honda vehicles with excellent MPGs, as well as the models you should steer clear of when gas prices start rising.
The Honda Insight Has the Best Gas Mileage
The Insight is the most fuel-efficient model from the Japanese car brand Honda. It originally came out in 1999. The first-generation Insight was a 2-door liftback. It was upgraded to a 4-door model during its second generation.
In 2019, the third-generation Insight hit the market. Honda updated this model from the original version, removing the liftback and turning this car into a more traditional sedan. You can purchase the EX or Touring trim level.
The third-gen Honda Insight features a combined 52 MPG. The Touring gets 51 MPG in the city and 45 MPG on the highway. Meanwhile, the EX model does slightly better, with 55 MPG in the city and 49 MPG on the highway.
Sadly, Honda has decided to discontinue the Honda Insight for the 2023 model year. The company stopped manufacturing this vehicle in June 2022 to prepare for the release of the new hybrid model that will replace it — the Civic Hybrid.
Other Fuel-Efficient Honda Vehicles
Honda may be discontinuing its fuel-efficient Insight after 2022. However, the company plans to replace this model with the new Honda Civic Hybrid going forward.
Honda plans to release its tenth-generation Civic with hybrid capabilities in the near future, though they haven't announced the exact release date.
Don't want to wait for the new Civic Hybrid to hit the market? Here are some other Honda vehicles to consider in the meantime.
The Honda Accord
The Honda Accord and Accord Hybrid are excellent choices for your next vehicle. But what is the Honda Accord's gas mileage?
The non-hybrid version features 22–30 MPG in the city and 32–38 MPG on the highway. The range is so large because the different trim levels feature 1.5 and 2-liter engines, which feature MPGs.
The Hybrid, on the other hand, only features one trim level. The 2022 Hybrid Accord features 48/47 MPG, and the 2021 model gets 48/48 MPG in the city and on the highway, respectively.
The Honda Civic
The Civic is one of Honda's most recognizable sedans on the market. It is highly affordable and features the expectedly high Honda MPG.
The non-hybrid 2022 Civic comes in four different trim levels. Each trim level features different gas mileage:
- The Sport: 30/37 MPG
- The Touring: 31/38 MPG
- The LX: 31/40 MPG
- The EX: 33/42 MPG
The Honda Civic also comes in a hatchback version. The hatchback comes in four different trim levels as well. Each trim level features gas mileage that is just slightly lower than that of the Honda Civic sedan's MPG.
The Civic Hybrid that will replace the Insight in 2023 should get even better gas mileage than either the non-hybrid sedan or the hatchback.
The Honda CR-V
Are you in the market for a Honda SUV with great MPG? The Honda CR-V and its hybrid counterpart are great choices.
The non-hybrid CRV gets different gas mileage in the 2WD vs. the all-wheel drive models. The 2WD model gets 28/34 MPG in the city and on the highway, respectively. The AWD version gets 27/32 MPG.
The Hybrid CR-V gets even better miles to the gallon. Both the 2022 and 2021 models get an incredible 40 MPG in the city and 35 MPG on the highway.
Honda Vehicles With the Worst Gas Mileage
If you are in the market for a new Honda, you probably want to know which models to avoid. Below, we are discussing the vehicles with the worst Honda gas mileage to help you shop smarter.
The Honda Ridgeline
The Ridgeline is Honda's take on the classic pick-up truck. As you might imagine, the Ridgeline truck gets the worst gas mileage of any Honda vehicle. Its 3.5-liter engine gets about 18 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway.
The Honda Odyssey
The Odyssey is Honda's version of the minivan. Like the Ridgeline, it has a V-6 engine. But this model gets slightly better gas mileage than Honda trucks, with 19 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway.
The Honda Passport
The Passport is Honda's second-largest SUV on the market. Its 2-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models get different gas mileage.
The 2WD version gets 20 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway. The AWD version gets 19 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway.
The Honda Pilot
If you want an SUV that is larger than the Passport but gets better gas mileage, check out the Honda Pilot. This is the largest SUV Honda has designed to date. And it gets different gas mileage depending on the model.
The front-wheel drive version gets 20/27 MPG in the city and on the highway, respectively. And the all-wheel drive version gets 19 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway.
